The M3 by Keiser has a unique resistence method. There are two small magnetic discs that are positioned about 1/4 inch off either side of the main flywheel. As you move the M3's resistence lever - which is silky smooth and quiet - the small magentic discs move over more of the flywheel surface and the resistence increases substantially. There is no contact so there is no wearing down of pads or rubber. You could almost call the mechanism micro adjustment capable as the lever is infinate in adjustment - that is it does not click between 8 to 10 predefined positions. As with any Keiser product, the M3 bike is very well designed.
The Base of the Keiser M3 is one piece and very stable. The bolts that secure the upright unit to the base are sturdy - remember to torque them down to specs, When you put the flywheel on use one of the flywheel bolts to align the flywheel hole with the threaded receiving hole then back it out and dont move the flywheel then put the hub on and put your bolt back in and then other 4 bolts should line up nicely. Remember to tighten every other bolt and circle thru all 5 bolts like this about 4 or 5 times. (Like you do when tightening the lugnuts on a car) All in all its a beautifull design and a beautifull bike. The Keiser M3 Indoor Cycling Bike - You wont be disappointed.
IMPORTANT: You may not opt for the Bike Computer after your order has been submitted to Keiser. Keiser builds the M3 Upright Bike to order and as such cannot add the computer after the bike has been assembled.
